Establishment of the German-Vietnam Hub in Leipzig
Vietnam is one of Asia’s most dynamic economies. With the entry into force of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the framework conditions for investment and trade between Europe and Vietnam have improved significantly. Vietnam aims to become a modern industrialized country with upper-middle-income status by 2030 and a developed, high-income country by 2045.
As a major hub for logistics, industry, and research, and as a partner city of Ho Chi Minh City, Leipzig serves as a key center for German-Vietnamese economic cooperation. Areas of particular focus include healthcare, water treatment, environmental technologies, energy, the digital economy, higher education cooperation, vocational training, and skilled workforce recruitment. In addition, the Leipzig Region is home to Germany’s largest Vietnamese community.
A Central Gateway for Vietnamese Companies in Germany
Against this backdrop, the City of Leipzig, the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Leipzig University, and Invest Region Leipzig GmbH declare their intention to jointly develop Leipzig into the German-Vietnam Hub. The objective is to establish the German-Vietnam Hub as a leading German-Vietnamese center of excellence for business cooperation, scientific collaboration, and city diplomacy, while positioning Leipzig as the central gateway for Vietnamese companies entering the German market.
Additional partners with proven expertise in Vietnam, business representatives from Leipzig’s Vietnamese community, and specialized law firms will contribute their expertise to the Hub. The German-Vietnam Hub is intended to become a central point of contact in Germany for Vietnamese companies, investors, research institutions, organizations, and entrepreneurs.
Strategic Objectives of the German-Vietnam Hub
